is the seer here article by trevor baker

Is the Seer here?

If people were to come and look at my life and your life and the life of the church, would they know that the Seer is here? Would they know that there is a prophetic flow that is able to speak into each and every situation, as God reads the intentions of our hearts through prophetic revelation?

Focussing on the Prophetic

The prophetic predominantly has to do with the naba; the bubbling up of the Spirit of God within us, so that we begin to speak out. That is particularly the whole prophetic flow of the naba, the declaring forth, the speaking out. But there is also roeh; this is the visual prophetic, where God begins to draw back the curtain and we see things that have always been there, but which we have never seen before. The Seer anointing enables us to see what the Lord is saying (Habakkuk 2:1).

I believe that God is taking us into that Seer anointing so that we begin to move in this realm of revelation. He wants now to open the seals and to break the seals for our time. Daniel 8:26 says "Seal up the vision, for it concerns the distant future".

The First Seer

The first Seer we find in scripture is God Himself. Now that is good news! God said "Let there be light …. and He saw that it was good" (Gen 1:3-4). Then He communicates that characteristic to Adam. He brings all the animals to Adam to see what He will call them, and whatever he called them that is what they became known as forever. The word roeh is used there. Why did God bring all the animals to Adam? Because as the animals came to Adam he started to move in that Seer anointing and then he began to speak out declarations and words of decree. What Adam spoke out has stood the test of all time; this is how powerful this anointing is.

What about the building of the tower of Babel? Again operating in the Seer anointing, God says "Let us go down and see what they are doing". "The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth". Why? Because He is a Seer. Again, that same word is used of the anointing of David: "I do not look on the outward appearance, I see the heart" (1 Samuel 16:7). Now He wants to communicate that to us. So, is the Seer here? That is one of the questions that God is speaking to the church today.

Establishing the character of Jesus

God is wanting to re-establish in the church the qualities and characteristics of Jesus. God is saying to us: "I am going to give you a Seer gift". He says: "I want to give to you something of Myself, because I am the greatest Seer".

In Revelation 3, He says to the church in Laodicea "I counsel you". Did you know that all of God's counsel is good? All of God's counsel will bring us into the place of the Spirit, because there is a spirit of counsel and of power, as we find in Isaiah 11. He will pour on us "a spirit of wisdom, of understanding, of counsel, of power and of knowledge and the fear of the Lord" (Isaiah 11:2). All of those things God wants to impart to us and He says: "So I counsel you".

Is God giving you any counsel at the moment? Then what you need to do is take hold of it. If you let it go for another day, another week, another year, do you know what happens? Sometimes that counsel departs and it is gone. You look for it and it is gone. It never completed its work or did what it was meant to do at that point because there is always a choice on our part to embrace what God wants to give us. "Men chose to walk in the light of John for a time" (John 5:35). Can you see there is a choice there? You see, God gives us counsel because He wants to move us into where He desires us to be.

Wealth in Christ: Philippians 3

God is saying to the Laodicean church: "You say that you are rich, you say here that I have acquired wealth, I have need of nothing. But you do not realise…". It says: "I counsel you to buy from me gold that has been refined in the fire" (Rev 3:15 -18). How are you going to buy from God, if He says: "You are wretched…you are poor…you are blind"?

The church in Laodicea was saying: "I am rich; I have gained all of this", but Jesus says: "Don't you realise something?" This is what Paul says about his wealth in Philippians 3:4 - 9, and what made him rich:

"If anyone thinks he has reason to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews, in regards to the law, a Pharisee, as for zeal, persecuting the Church, as for legalistic righteousness, faultless". But whatever was to my profit I now consider a loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law but that which is through faith in Christ."

Right from his birth, Paul was flowing in the ways of God, the things that God had spoken and the revealed word of God up to that point. So for him, as a Jew, he was circumcised on the eighth day and he had a heritage that he could plug into.

You say you are rich, but I am saying: "Don't you realize that you are blind?" Is the Seer here? "I counsel you to buy from me eye salve" (Rev 3:18) - why? Because I want you to see, to put into the church the blazing eyes of Jesus again. Wouldn't that be awesome? As we begin to see as God sees, we begin to penetrate right into the realm of the supernatural, to the realm of the spirit, like you have never known before.

If you are reading this and you have not got a clue what I am talking about, let me tell you it is because you do not have eyes to see the realm of the supernatural. But I believe that if you ask God to give you a desire to see for yourself and to see His presence, I believe He will answer that prayer, and he will begin to anoint your eyes with eye salve and you will begin to see like you have never seen before. You have heard people giving visions of what they have seen, awesome pictures about the realm and authority and rule of God, and you thought "What on earth was that all about?" because you couldn't see it. But I believe God wants to do something in those areas of your life. He wants you to see in the realm of the supernatural. He wants you to begin to explore the unfathomable riches of His ways!

Restoring honour and value

It does not matter where you have been up to this point or what people have said, trying to shut you up and keep you quiet. I believe the Church is coming into a place where it is going to be valued. Do you know what the word Bartimeaus means? It means "son of value" (son of the honourable, son of one esteemed). Bartimeaus means to be honoured, to be valued, and yet in Mark 10:48 we read there that he was a beggar, with no value, begging for his bread. He cried out: "Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me!" (Mark 10:48). What did Jesus do? He gave him back value. How did He give him back value? By giving him eyes to see. After that he no longer needed to beg. "I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire… salve to put on your eyes, so that you can see." (Rev 3:18). What happened to Bartimeaus? He just stepped into what God had already spoken and had always spoken about his life: "Bartimeaus, you are a son of value".

And there is a fire that is beginning to rise up, that people will see and come to, and that is for any church that will take the counsel of God and flow with it. "Kings will come to the brightness of your dawn" (Isaiah 60:3); kings will come, don't think they won't. Bartimeaus was a son of value, but he was devalued, nothing, no good, with no hope, and he could do nothing apart from sit on the floor and beg his bread. And Jesus comes along, who is the Bread of Life and He says "Do you want some? Do you want some of my bread, Bartimaeus? "Oh, yes, please!" "What bread do you want today, Bartimeaus?" He said: "I would like some bread so that I can see… I would like to see". Jesus says: "Be it unto you, you can have it according to the measure of your faith". Then his eyes were opened and he saw; he saw the Bread of Life speaking right into him.

Wouldn't you like that to become the vision that you actually see? Because all of this constantly brings us back to Jesus, and all the revelation that we get should bring us straight back to Him. Whatever revelation we get, whether it is in the heavenly courts of God (Psalm 100:4), whether it is eating the scrolls (Ezekiel 3:2 - 4, Rev 10:8 - 10), whether it is the books of destiny (Daniel 7:10, 10:21), whether it is the songs of the Lord (Isaiah 49 and 53) or the books of the wars of the Lord (Numbers 21:14) where we see this warring God going out on our behalf, ultimately we never get distracted from the reality that all revelation is pointing to Him. And when they point to Him we have full on, eyes wide open revelation of Jesus - that is what the Church needs!

I believe there will be many places that begin to rise up with the Seer anointing. I feel that we are touching a nerve of something when we talk about this. We are touching the nerve of the church. Do you know when a dentist touches a nerve, you wake up pretty quickly? I mean, you are wide awake, aren't you! And then all of your senses come in to play and you are looking at the dentist, where his hands are, what he is going to do next, looking, waiting to hear the sounds that are going to be reverberating around the room and wondering if there is going to be more pain attached! But you see, God is touching the nerve of the church, and the nerve of the church is one of desire and not pain. The nerve of desire He is touching in the church cries out: "Eyes to see! I have lived in this place as a beggar long enough, so I am hearing what you are saying to me".

The Seer

We have the ability to do lots of things. As a church, we have the ability to run life groups, we have the ability to run a meeting, we have the ability to run a worship set, we have the ability to have people preach the word and we have the ability to put on conferences. But we can get to a point where we do things out of our ability rather than out of that prophetic flow of what God wants to reveal to us. So when we begin to flow in those ways we will become like Samuel, the Seer.

In 1 Samuel 9:6, we read that Saul and his servant have been looking for donkeys that have been lost. "But the servant replied: "Look, in this town there is a man of God; he is highly respected and everything he says comes true. Let's go there now. Perhaps he will tell us which way to take".

Wow - that is prophetic! Amos 3:7 "Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets". Nothing - zero! See, it says everything he says comes true. Again, in verse 8: "The servant answered him again: "Look," he said, "I have a quarter of a shekel of silver. I will give it to the man of God so that he will tell us what way to take".

Do you know that the gift opens up the way for the giver? (Proverbs 18:16) There is always a cost, and if we want to move into greater areas of revelation there will be a cost. "I counsel you to buy from me"; what does it cost? Well, you have to lose your reputation, you have to lose your traditions, you have to lose those things that you are putting so much weight on at the moment and begin putting weight upon My presence and what I am revealing now." Even our Christian heritage up to this point; I am not saying throw it away, but we cannot put more weight on our heritage than the ongoing revelation of the presence of God. If we do, we become like movements of the past: we build what we do out of tradition and upon tradition. Then we make a monument out of it - and in a monument there can never be life.

But God is moving into an ongoing revelation of His presence and giving us eyes to see again! That's a lot scarier for us as a people, not just for me but for us, because the wind blows where it wants to blow (John 3:8). All we can do is hear the sound and see the leaves begin to move. You see, God will give us indications as to which direction to go in and as we go in, as we begin to put our face towards where the Spirit of God is taking us, I believe that is the point where revelation will break upon us like we have never known before.

Father, take us at our word today. Anoint our eyes, Lord. Father, we want the blazing eyes of Jesus, not just to penetrate in but we want His eyes to be our eyes. We want to see like Jesus saw; we want to see the realms of heaven that Jesus saw. We want to see the works of the Father like Jesus saw. We want to see and hear the words of the Father like Jesus saw and heard. And so Father you said: "I counsel you" and so we want to take that step like Paul, all these things I now consider as loss for the sake of gaining Christ. Come now, Holy Spirit, anoint us, give us eyes to see again. Lord, let the church become a place of value once again, a place of honour. Give us that Bartimaeus experience; instead of being devalued and dishonoured, to be valued and honored Father, more because of your presence then anything else.
